Beyond the Conservative Conference

Many of you will have heard that George Osborne is to announce his slash-and-burn spending review on Wednesday 20th October. We shall be holding a Visual Action that evening to communicate the need for action against cuts to the press and commuters, between 5 and 6pm (location TBA), followed by:

STOP THE CUTS – March to Defend Services, Jobs and Communities!

Saturday 23rd October, assemble at 1pm in Parliament Street

Come and join a family-friendly march and rally through our city centre, uniting our community in opposition to the slash-and-burn cuts that will be announced on Wednesday 20th in the government’s Spending Review. Bring banners, colour & noise, friends, family & colleagues and most importantly, yourselves!

Rally speakers include local priest Father Tim Jones, Councillor Dave Taylor, and representatives of local Unions and voluntary groups. Full list to be announced – we’ve asked local MP Hugh Bayley and eagerly await his response! Organised by York Stop the Cuts – Right to Work campaign with support from York City UNISON and other Unions and community groups.

We’re setting a target of 200 people taking part – a diverse cross section of York’s communities – public and private sector workers, service users, families, students and more. Please pass this event on to any groups and friends that you can.

  1. Please note that PCS Branches in the York area met friday 15 Oct to discuss and arrangements for Saturday 23 Oct 2010. We will be sending out details to the membership over this week. Can you ensure that we are kept up todate as the campaign moves on. You will recall that PCS played a key part in the Birmingham march. We do need details of the Unison reps because we do have an agreement regarding this campaign. Have you made contact with the York Trade Council who discussed the matter last thursday.
