500,000 marched in London: Now What?

After a month of “getting round” to an update, here’s a quick update on what has happened and what will be happening. We took 4 coaches to London, alongside a sterling effort from local unions who filled several carriages on various trains. Since then we’ve been planning some events with a slightly different flavour, and a new Benefits campaign is coming together.

Local Election Question Times – 26th and 27th April

We want to give people a chance to ask questions of candidates for the local elections on 5th May. Almost any decision taken in the next council will be overshadowed by the cuts and the lack of available money. On Tuesday 26th we’re in Acomb, at the Acomb Parish Church Hall on Front Street, opposite the Post Office. On Wednesday 27th we’re in the City Centre, at Friend’s Meeting House on Friargate, which is opposite the Dungeon. Both events start at 7.30pm and will feature Conservative, Green and Labour candidates, and the Lib Dems if they ever respond to our invitation!

May Day Fair

We’re in the process of booking a space to hold a fair on the May Day bank holiday, traditionally the worker’s holiday, and, surprise surprise, under threat from the Conservatives. All being well, we’ll be having acoustic music and performances, speeches and story telling, stalls and picnics in Tower Gardens, between Clifford’s Tower and the river, between 12 noon and 3pm.
